Trisha Adams is an alla prima painter living and working in Northern Virginia. Her paintings are representational with, what Ms. Adams describes as, "a dash of abstraction." She elaborates, "The illusion of space adds the third dimension, typically absent in much abstract work. This space allows the viewer to project themselves in the world of the painting and participate in it."

Ms. Adams' favorite subjects for her work are landscapes and still lifes. She often paint outdoors, en plein air, and loves to travel and discover new landscapes to paint.

"I am interested in the way a painting - a flat, inanimate object - can make a person feel. At its most successful, it engages the viewer and does not let them go. Much of my study has been focused on the aesthetic response to color harmonies for this reason. I strive to give the painting a feeling of energy and vitality through active brushstrokes and dynamic composition."

"About half of my paintings are done with a palette knife. The palette knife forces simplification and eliminates detail. The resulting painting has fewer linear edges and interesting texture. The way I put down patches of color with the palette knife is similar to the way I worked with collage in my earlier work."

In March 2009, Ms. Adams was profiled in Northern Virginia Magazine. Her work was also featured on the cover of the July/August 2006 issue of Elan magazine. Several of her paintings have been displayed in public buildings, including one on permanent display at the Virginia State Capitol in Richmond. She has participated in group and solo shows in New York, Virginia, and Maryland. Among her awards, Ms. Adams received 2nd Place for Oils in the Red Barn Art Exhibit in Waterford, Virginia, in 2006. She was also selected for an Artist Residency by the Ora Lerman Charitable Trust in 2007.
